Cammy DickieMarcus and the rest of the team are all very knowledgeable and approachable. They provide consistently varied sessions aimed at improving strength and skill. As a currently serving soldier in the Army, I am always looking for ways to challenge myself. CRG CrossFit have helped me achieve the levels of functional strength and endurance required in a fast paced, stressful environment
Isobel LintonCRG...is AWESOME!!!
I've been going to the crossfit classes at combat ready for the last 7 months...and I love them! I look forward to training there on a Mon, Wed and Fri at 11 every week and getting stronger each time! I've gone from having no strength 'in my opinion' to already lifting more and moving more than I ever would if I went to a 'regular' gym by myself!
Liz and Marcus are excellent coaches and explain everything we're doing at the beginning of each class and adjust our techniques and support us throughout. They really encourage us to push ourselves with our weaknesses which in-turn makes each of us much stronger.
I would recommend coming along to try a class to anyone who's thought about trying weights/crossfit before or just want to train/exercise with a group of people who are fun/friendly and very supportive.
There is a real community at crg and we all help each other to lift better, move faster, support each other and make it to the end of each WOD, AMRAP or just each class.
You should definitely try it!!!
Kirsty AllanI joined Crossfit at CRG just over a year ago after a good friend who was a member of a CF box down south suggested I give it a go. Since then I've seen improvement in my overall fitness and strength as well as making friends. I've surprised myself with being able to push my body further than I thought and gaining the confidence to do so thanks to the coaches
Nick BrownBefore joining CRG CF i think i had taken up memberships with most main stream gyms in Edinburgh, non lasting more than six months. Every time i joined a gym i was focussed and determined to do well and keep fit but this slowly diminished each time due to having no confidence, no real self motivation and feeling it was very repetitive. Back in Feb 2014 i knew i had to think outside the box, if i ever wanted to get fit. That's when i discovered CRG CF on the web - their website was informative, user friendly and offered class times to work around my work life. After making contact and plucking up the courage i went for my first fundamental class. My instructor Liz was warm, friendly and welcoming and it was clear she knew her stuff, which encouraged me to keep coming. The first few months of crossfit were hard, frustrating but immensely enjoyable, the team and fellow cross fitters are what make CRG CF and makes me come back time and time again. THANKS GUYS!!!!!
James LayThe Combat Ready Gym is a really well equipped Crossfit gym with a great atmosphere and really friendly, expert coaches. Regular classes with no need to sign up make it easy to turn up and train. You get lots of one to one input from the coaches and you're consistently challenged to see progress in strength and fitness. I feel the fittest and strongest I've ever felt from working out there. I also find it easy to fit the training in because it's no nonsense, starts and ends on time and everyone at the gym is really friendly and encouraging
Fi HaywoodI have never been a fan of gyms, it always seemed to just involve a lot of running on a treadmill and Les Mills classes. But my husband dragged me along to a class as Combat ready gym a few years ago and the fun, inclusive and relaxed atmosphere along with the varied classes and great coaching won me over. I would definitely recommend CRG Crossfit and Combat Ready Gym to anyone looking for a fun and friendly place to work out. I have been doing the Crossfit classes for about a year now, I initially thought that it would be way over my level, but I am so glad that I gave it a try! A year later and I am still hooked. Crossfit classes have something for everyone and really push you to your limits, in a good way! I also go to the kickboxing classes and they are great fun, the classes are always varied and the coaches keep you working to the end
Euan ForsythSince starting crossfit I've become stronger, fitter and got my body in the best shape at any stage of my life. The coaching combined with the varied workouts has resulted in an evolving fitness programme that is fun and challenging but never boring or repetitive.
Michael Heasley - VP analytics, BarclaysAfter quitting rugby in my mid-thirties Crossfit provided a real alternative to feed my competitive side. Not only that, I find myself learning new techniques and have a much better understanding on how my body operates and how I can improve. Classes are tough but tailored so everyone benefits regardless of condition. I am very glad I found CRG Crossfit, in fact I wish I found it years ago
John KeaneCRG is the absolute perfect place to go if you are interested in getting into crossfit. The trainers are very helpful and supportive. There is a fantastic community spirit at CRG that makes going to Crossfit classes lots of fun. At CRG it is all about working hard and getting fit. I started going to crossfit classes at CRG about a year ago, initially just to be more active and improve my overall fitness, and because I had heard quite a lot about the benefits of crossfit. I absolutely love it, there is no better feeling than finishing up a really tough workout knowing that you gave it your all. If you want to get into crossfit and/or improve your overall fitness then CRG is the place for you!
Nicole IrvineCRG caters for all levels of fitness; from those with zero experience to seasoned athletes, and everything in between. The gym's knowledgable and approachable coaches make training fun, whilst pushing you to achieve your own goals. I've learnt a lot from training at CRG, as well as making some great friends & keeping fit. I'd highly recommend this gym to anyone!
Ursula De RuyterI started Crossfit at CRG about a year ago and couldn't recommend it more highly. I joined after a couple of years of not doing much exercise and wanted to try something that would really push me, even if it was daunting getting to those first few classes. I've since achieved things I never would have believed I was capable of - squatting more than my body weight, deadlifting 100kg, getting 150 wall balls done in less than 10 minutes. I couldn't have done any of this if it weren't for the support and knowledge of the coaches at CRG. There is a real sense of community and fun at the gym which, coupled with feeling stronger than I have done in all my life, keeps me coming back for more.
Andrew PedenHaving been a member of two conventional gym for over 8 years in which i visited at least 3 times per week. I was looking for a new challenge and stumbled across crossfit at crg. Having now been going for 8 months i can honestly say it is the first time I have ever noticed such a dramatic change in my body shape and strength. Further research into crossfit via online resources has also changed my eating habits and now eat clean to stay lean..well most of the time! The coaches knowledge at the gym is second to none and constant reminders about form and technique are never far away. The sessions are always structured towards setting new goals and pushing yourself further than you thought possible.
Fiona MoncurOver the years I have taken on various fitness classes, gym memberships and the like but the vicious circle of boredom and lack of progress has always worn down my motivation to keep going. Crossfit at Combat Ready is different and I find myself reorganising other parts of my life to ensure I make my classes each week. Marcus & Drew are great instructors, taking the time to ensure that all exercises are being performed safely, with good form but also pushing you to progress as well as take ownership of your own workout. I have noticed huge positive changes in my fitness levels and strength which in turn motivates me to keep going and push myself harder. The gym can be daunting at first and the training is the hardest Iíve done Ė but then if it was easyÖ.everyone would do it!
Tracy DonaldsonCrossfit for me is about being strong and healthy. I started off at Combat Ready swinging a 4kg kettlebell too scared to push myself and now I can deadlift nearly 90kg. It wasn't a goal that I had set myself and it didn't happen overnight but week after week I received the encouragement and instruction I needed to lift more. I've stuck in at the crossfit classes because each training session is different, I never get bored. Everyone at gym is really friendly and it's nice to be able to say that I've made some new friends as well as get fit and strong.
Leeanne, 30, Primary TeacherI've been coming to Combat Ready Gym for over a year now and doing crossfit for around 6 months and LOVING it! I first came to kickboxing classes, added in some personal training with Marcus then gave Crossfit a go.
I've never felt as fit or strong. I have to keep shifting my goals because I keep achieving them. I'm able to do things I never thought I could, who knows what I'll be able to do after another 6 months! All because of the great services Combat Ready Gym provides.
The instructors are fantastic! Marcus, Drew and Lawrie push you hard while being encouraging and create a friendly environment where it's ok to compete against yourself and sometimes others in the Saturday team challenges. The instructors get to know your strengths and support you in the areas in need of improvement. There's a great group of dedicated people who come to the classes and classes are brilliant fun while being extremely challenging.
There's nothing that crossfit leaves out of a fitness programme; there's cardio, running, body weight training, heavy lifting and loads of skills.
No workout is the same and each is more challenging than the next. I have to say I'm now a Crossfit addict and I really feel it if I miss a couple of classes.
I'd like to say thanks to Marcus for introducing me to Crossfit and the encouragement I've been given. Give Crossfit a go, who knows you might become a Crossfit addict too!
Ross DunsI have been sitting for a while now trying to think of what to say as a testimonial for Crossfit classes at Combat Ready Gym. I was going to talk about how I lost a lot of weight, how it gave me an energy iv'e not had from doing "exercise" before or how it improved my general outlook on healthy living and eating...and of course it did all of the above and many more positive changes, but, the main thing I enjoyed was my strength increasing, week in, week out I was able to visually see and feel that I was lifting heavier and heavier weights, there was always someone within the class to push me on and make sure my form wasn't suffering and that I was working to the top of my ability, each person in the class takes an active role in helping and supporting others whether it's your first day in the gym or your there 6 times a week. It's a good thing to be a part of.
As an example, I remember the first time we did "Fran" it was during one of my first classes and I didn't know what had hit me afterwards, I struggled through it and didn't for one minute during, think I was going to finish the workout, but I did and I wrote my time down, a few months later, we did Fran again as the WOD, I struggled through it again, it didn't feel any easier than last time and I still didn't think I was going to finish it! However, when I wrote my time down in the book and after flicking back through to find my time from last time I noticed I had knocked nearly 2 minutes off my time, that was the point where I really thought my fitness was improving dramatically, then I realised I had done it with more weight on the bar than last time aswell, this proves that no matter what your fitness levels you can improve your times, increase your weights but most importantly in my opinion continually challenge yourself.
Marcus who runs the classes is extremely helpful and supportive, he works the fine line between pushing you to your limit and bringing the best out of you, I don't believe this is the kind of thing that can be taught, he is passionate about it and about helping to improve each and every person that walks through the door. Marcus and Drew, the other qualified crossfit instructor at the gym, have helped me personally a lot with everything from injuries and how to work around them, to mobility issues to improving my technical lifts like cleans to teaching me how to do double-unders when before I couldn't link 10 single skips together and one which I am particularly happy with is the handstand walk! I hope it has the same effect for anyone who wants to try it out.
Jacque WhiteAfter using many gyms over the years I've finally found somewhere that is welcoming, while also making sure people keep surpassing their limits and actually see results. The trainers Marcus and Drew say how it is and don't take "I can't" as an answer, which is something I've struggled with when working out on my own and with other personal trainers. I never thought I'd be attempting pull ups and hand stand press ups, but I am. The sessions are extremely hard and often the thought of them is daunting, but once you're done you feel exhilarated and as mad as it seems, you look forward to the next session. To complement the great atmosphere their blog and Facebook pages have informative articles and posts that keep you motivated outside the gym. I would highly Combat Ready and Cross-fit if you're up for a challenge.
Sam RowlandsCrossFit CRG at the Combat Ready Gym is a very welcoming and laid back place to train. I am able to do my own sessions, whilst also getting help and advice from great coaches. There is something there for people of all fitness levels, with top notch facilities.
John Lamont, 50, lecturer, GlasgowOK.Three things to note about Cross fit here at the Combat Ready Gym. If youíre new to Cross fit youíll be welcome and not just be left to fail and give up. Not only are you positively encouraged to push it and do beyond your best to achieve continuous improvement in your fitness if you are already quite fit, you are also supported to go at it the best you can if you are not so fit. So, in effect, fit bods, there is nothing holding you back AND not so fit bods, you wonít be made to feel bad. This is rare in gyms. The teachers will focus on the best AND the rest and get both interest groups fitter. They genuinely take some pride in this. The second thing is the nature of Cross fit itself. It is what they call functional fitness. Itís a great mix of free weights, body weight training, running, gymnastics/agility. They say itís the right mix to stimulate hormones that make you lean and give you good definition (check it online). Stick at it and you will see great results. It will make you feel great, especially if you eat good too. The third special feature of Cross fit at Combat Ready Gym is that because it is an excellent centre for martial arts, they have a good sense of what I have come to understand as ďphysical intelligenceĒ. Training here you will be able to pick up from this. It is very apparent. Itís all around you and in the teachers. There is a correct mix of skills training, workouts and fun team stuff. Youíll get to integrate more running outside when itís lighter. It never gets deadbeat. Youíll meet a nice balance of men and women and if you want, be part of a good set-up or good community (yes, weíre on Facebook)Youíll get to record and track and compare your progress. You will do wall hand stands and box jumps, shuttle sprints and deadlift 100kg. Itís all great fun! Give it a go! Iíve put in the effort and I have become fitter than I thought I could be at my age.
Dougie HaywoodI've been training at Combat Ready for over a year now and can't recommend it enough. When I started I had average fitness and no knowledge of Olympic weightlifting or skills such as box jumps. With Marcus's coaching, I have put on a stone of muscle, can lift twice as much weight and can do chin ups with good form.
Crossfit classes are challenging but there is a real mix of levels and they are scaled to suit different needs. Unlike some places, the emphasis is on good form and there is lots of individual attention. The schedule means that there are times to suit everyone and makes it really easy to fit around work. The different pricing options also represent great value for money.
Combat Ready feels less like a gym and more like a community of like minded people who have a shared interest in fitness. Turning up to train for the first time can feel daunting but the atmosphere is both friendly and motivational which makes it much easier to take that step...
Racheael GouldingI have been going to Combat Ready for a few years now and in that time have tried most classes. I had been going regularly to the kickboxing classes when the gym introduced the Crossfit training. I had seen the classes on and was interested in trying them as everyone looked like they had been put though a really good work by the end of them. I was however quite dubious as I had also seen everyone lifting big weights and thought I would not be able manage that. Combat Ready put on a crossfit bootcamp before Christmas which I was encouraged to go too, I did and was very glad I went. The instructors are patient and positive. They encourage you to try your hardest and get the best from you but never push you beyond your capabilities. I always come away feeling proud of what I have achieved for myself, you are not compared to anyone else in the class as it is all about self development and the instructors are happy when you have done your best. The classes are very friendly and everyone helps and encourages each other.
